Many years ago, I attended a lecture with a writing instructor and a book agent. One of the takeaways from that was the emphatic comment of the instructor, “Don’t ever bother writing a book unless you just can’t imagine doing anything else. The hoops you’ll have to jump through to get published will haunt you.”
The good news is that today anyone can get published and can see their book for sale. That doesn’t mean that it WILL sell, but it will be available. There are lots of different writing creation programs and software available to bring your manuscript to fruition, also software to format it into the necessary file types and plenty of ways to market it. Navigating through the many options is probably the most time consuming. What’s right for one person is not necessarily the correct option for you.
Research, research, research. Do some introspection and find out why you want to write. Is it a creative outlet? Will it lend credibility to your profession? Do you want to help others because of an aspect of your own life that has been difficult? Are you an expert at something? Can you inspire others? Can you take them to a land of mystery, intrigue, fairy tales, or romance? The real reason will help guide you to the best help for your particular project.
