For those with a large project with lots of unknowns, we can quote you a fee with a “not to exceed” price.
What, Exactly, Is Formatting?
1. Adhering to the correct file format required by printers and sellers of books. (ePub, PDF, etc.)
2. Setting margins so that the file is accepted. Printers do not allow ink in the spine area because glue does not stick correctly.
3. Setting headers and footers (showing book title, chapter title, page numbers, and author name as desired)
4. Setting fonts (some fonts cannot be used on eBooks)
5. Setting up paragraph and document indentation or paragraph spacing (indents are most often used for fiction and spacing is most often used for nonfiction)
6. Checking and deleting extra spaces, paragraph returns, tabs
7. Inserting headings correctly and chapter titles, deleting and/or inserting page numbers. Also inserting images in the correct resolution.
8. Designing cover and/or formatting the cover to eBook requirements and printer requirements, including inserting spine text and a back cover book summary
9. Inserting dedication and front matter pages (copyright, etc.)
10. Filing for copyright and Library of Congress numbers
11. Filing for ISBN numbers (the author needs to purchase ISBN numbers through Bowker at myidentifiers.com)
12. Assistance setting up all author accounts with Amazon and IngramSpark, etc.
13. Uploading and previewing all files to sites online for format compatibility
14. Adhering to all rules and regulations of all sites
15. Correcting size and pixel requirements of images for book covers using Photoshop and AI enhancement software
16. Completing cover template for printed book
17. Provide author with information on setting book price based on cost and royalty opportunities
18. Upon request, provide with promotional information
19. Upon request, set up Amazon Author Central page
